not just for sacrificing anymore!

So, you may have noticed the addition of the schnazzy new MFR-futurephone in a whole slew of recent posts, enabling live and somewhat non-thumbusting moblogging coverage from concerts that us robots get our shiny metal butts into. Here at MFR, we're always looking for fun new ways to tie technology, media and music together, and this seemed like a logical and fun step to take. We didn't quite have the resources to take this step alone, and that's where the requisite sugar mamma stepped in - Virgin Mobile has been generous enough to provide us with their Switch_Back phones to enable the live coverage (and in time for CMJ!!!).

And that's it. As always, no one gets to tell us what music to put on the site, or what shows to go see, or what to write about. We still stick to the same shiny metal values that have been plastered in the disclaimer over there in the right sidebar since this site went live over two years ago - the only content you'll find here is stuff we love, even though Anders really wants us to admit that we've been selling out since 2004. We've been the first MP3 blog to jump through a bunch of important hoops (posting a major-label band with permission, being featured on TV, putting out the CD compilation, holding live showcase events in several cities, and so on), and this idea has been kicking around for some time. Along those lines, if you've got an event you think we'd enjoy and you wouldn't mind having covered live, by all means let us know!.

With love, your dedicated Robots.

please reconsider.
texting or live blogging at a show is super distracting and irritating to those of us near the bright screen.

Mattly: Thanks for the vote of confidence. We will certainly try harder to sell out from now on :P

Anon: Don't worry. Aside from snapping one or two pix up close, I do the moblogging/thumbpad typing waaaaaay in the back of venue. I know how annoying little orbs of glowing screen-light (especially when they're attached to Blackberries or Treos and the person seems to be writing a novel rather than enjoying the show), and I don't want to detract from anyone else's experience. So all the typey-type takes place over at the bar or in a corner where there's some ample squatting room. I promise.
