Plus Device - Ultra Seductive

Back! In! Action!

After a lil' stretch of time between the release of Body Heat earlier this year and now, the ever-mysterious Plus Device returns with a new (and totally solid) full-length album, called Puncture. As I said back then, Plus Device is "two well-known producers" but that is literally all any of us know, because Plus Device is a top-secret project the labels won't tell anyone about.

Puncture has the original mix of "Body Heat" as well as ten other new tracks. PD again pulls the Detroit electro-funk style as the main focus of the album, but they mix it up with some nasty ghetto-tech flavors (and smutty titles), a really wild acid-house track, and some mid-tempo electro-disco jams. The varied sounds and tempos, and subtle textures that grace every single track on the record (even the simple-at-first-listen bangers) clearly illustrate the duo's ability to take well known synth and drum machine sounds and make them into something new and fresh every time.

Puncture comes out on November 14th here in the US, and this week in Europe. The album is being released, like the EP before, by Chicago's Hefty Records. You will be able to order it direct from their website, and you'll see it in your favorite retail shops and on iTunes in a couple of weeks.

I read something on a press release stating that it shouldn't be "too hard" to figure out who Plus Device is, but I'm clueless. The only one I could really think of is John McEntire, since he runs Hefty, right? Anyway, groovy.

This clearly sounds like Jimmy Edgar. Detroit Electro and a very similar sound and ideology.

Half of Plus Device is definitely Jimmy Edgar. My guess for his counterpart would be John Hughes.

My guess is Jimmy Edgar and Josh Eustis from Telefon Tel Aviv.

Jimmy appears to makes sense. But why would he need another alter-ego to produce a very, very similar sound to his material under his own name? That doesn't make sense.
