Bulgur Brothers - My Mao

As a lot of you probably know, I've been getting pretty deep into the weird modern disco and the new-wave of Parisian dance music lately, but I still hold a place in my heart for high quality minimal techno. This stuff right here is brand spanking new, and I love it. Loved it from first listen, love it now. The group calling themselves Bulgur Brothers, is a tech-house boy-band of sorts, made up of Mikael Stavöstrand, Andreas Tilliander, and Johan Skugge (who you may recall me posting about way back when), all of whom have released numerous singles and albums on labels as diverse as Mille Plateaux, Force Inc, Resopal, Karat, Source, Mo's Ferry, and Contexterrior.

Their new full-length, titled Smoothie Man, just came out on Sweden's Sunset Diskos label, and it is a real piece of work. Great melodies, sub-basement deepness, all with a delicious crunch to the beats, and a playful yet tracky feel - I can imagine listening to this on a variety of sources - iPod, home stereo, club soundsystem - and finding something different to love each time around.

There are even a couple of those extra-long songs that the minimal cognoscenti have been talking a lot about lately that are especially great - huge stormy songs that go through various subtle phases and monstrous builds - definitely worth looking into. In fact, along those lines, there is a 2nd CD packaged with Smoothie Man of a live track called "I want to live forever" they recorded at the 103 Club in Berlin - it clocks in over twenty minutes long, but somehow never gets boring.

Check out their Myspace page to hear more tracks and get info on their goings on. Smoothie Man is available from our friends at Forced Exposure as of today. Highly Recommended.
