Black Moth Super Rainbow + the Octopus Project - Elq Milq

That's weird.

I was just thinking about how much I love instrumental post-rock type music, because I heard some new EITS, and was listening to the most recent BOC album, The Campfire Headphase... and along comes a pair of bands making music together that is a lovely, twisted amalgam of the two.

So this is two bands: BMSR and the OP, one from Austin, the other from Pittsburgh, working collaboratively on making music - I won't go into the biographicals on each of them (see their own sites for more info), but the press materials on this new album say that they both really liked each others music and decided do something together, so they sent sound files and tapes back and forth, halfway across the country between them for months, with this as the result.

The new album is called The House of Apples & Eyeballs, and as I mentioned up there, it really is a great combination of Boards of Canada's beats, samples and sound-paintings, paired with these washes of guitar noise and ringing tones that make for a really entertaining listen. In fact, I think I listened to the record a half dozen times before deciding on what song to post here - I found each listen to bring out something a little different, and kept wanting to listen more and more to see what else was hiding in these songs. Seriously, this is excellent stuff.

The House of Apples & Eyeballs is out now on Chicago's Graveface Records (I wrote about them a while ago when I posted a Daturah song, remember?) - so chalk this up there as another interesting, and totally different sounding entry to their steadily growing catalog. You can buy THOAE direct from the label, here. RIYL: BOC, EITS, Mogwai, Caribou, Four Tet, etc.

Highly recommended.
