It's A Gift to Myself

PostDananananaykroyd - Totally Bone!.

I thought I had a handle on jet lag. That was before I spent five days in New Hampshire, three days in Los Angeles and then four more days in New Hampshire. I'm back in Los Angeles now, and I'm tired. Still, the days here are warm, the nights cold. It's a nice start to this awkward December. I was born in December. Did I tell you that already?

Anyway, I keep coming back to music like this. I'll head off on countless diversions to various sorts of this-and-that, but in the end, a song like Totally Bone! by Dananananaykroyd is just the sort of thing that gets me by. It's the wonderful combination of familiar, engaging and new. The first listen had me dismiss it as another Fugazi clone, but it's much more than that. When the singer (who has just been replaced, I'm told) rolls his B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-buh line, I know they're up to something. The chorus is spectacular. It rises louder with each incarnation, and halfway through the drums just shatter it all. It's the type of thing that I could listen to over and over again.

So, there's that. As far as I know, they have released one single as part of the new and awesome Moshi Moshi Singles Club. You can pick it up here. Other than that, I'm not sure. I think there are six (now five) members and they hail from Scotland. The rest is a mystery. Well, not really. But the music is more important. Listen to it, then wonder about what 2007 will bring.

Hi. I read your blog and enjoy it and im in this band too, so thanks for the kind words. It's weird though, im just back from 2 weeks in New Hampshire myself (with a bit of Vermont and Mass thrown in for good measure) visiting my ladies' family for Thanksgiving. Where abouts were you? I was up in Berlin and a bit of Manchester too. Back in Scotland now and super jet-lagged also.

Anyway, our singer left amicably to pursue his art career before we got too busy with band stuff. We have replaced him with one of our drummers, but now face the predicament of finding a replacement sticksman. Argh. Wish us luck! :)

Thanks again.

d,

i hail from scenic Lake Winnipesaukee, which is centrally located in New Hampshire. I fly out of Manchester though.

thanks for posting - I'm glad you guys are moving forward. Maybe one of our readers is a drummer from Scotland...

After watching What About Bob, I've always that Lake Winnipesaukee was a fictional name. Now I know that's it's real, I can visit MFR and sleep easier.

well, Ike. To clarify, Lake Winnipesaukee is the name of the lake. There is no town with that name, like in the movie (which was actually filmed in North Carolina). So, I'm not sure how easy you should be sleeping...
