Pela - Lost to the Lonesome (Cassettes Won't Listen Remix)
Every now and again, two good things come together in a way that uses the new math, such that 1 + 1 = 3. What I mean is, sometimes a good band and another good band come together to yield an amazing collaboration or remix. Such is the this case. MFR Vol. 2 artist Pela + MFR favorite Cassettes Won't Listen = simply amazing.
Pela has been on MFR several times before, and we couldn't be happier for the lads or more excited for their upcoming full-length release this Spring. They've been featured on the MFR/Brassland digital EP, MFR002, and performed at gigs alongside MFR DJs. Get the picture? We (heart) Pela. You should too - if there is any sense left in this mad world they'll dwarf the current juggernauts of the ex-indie set when their album takes off. They certainly deserve it.
But the real highlight here is on Cassettes Won't Listen. They're currently residing on Dope Lotus Records, comprised of Kid Lucci (vocals), Doc Torchaos on drums, Jeh Walker on bass, and Drehke handling the production (Update: JUST KIDDING, it's actually all a one-man show, courtesy of one Mr. Jay Drake! That's what I'd thought, but an old bio ran me aground). The sound is rich, twists together the best of acoustic/percussion instruments and electronic production, resulting in music that sounds like a more American version of personal favs the Notwist.
You can download a free CWL track, Cutting Balloons, on the band's Myspace page, and you can listen to the entire instrumental album The Quiet Trial and purchase tracks digitally on their website's splash page. There's also a ton of CWL MP3's and other goodies on the Dope Lotus blog page. Finally, if you want the whole album, you can always pop over to eMusic and download both their CDs for free as part of a free 25-song trial. Any way you get it, enjoy it!
