We've all got a little neon heart somewhere

Windmill - Tokyo Moon

See? I told you there were more goodies on the way from our friends at Melodic. Also, in addition to this post kicking off the week, it also clocks in at article number 1,500 here on MFR. So here's to this great song, and the 1,499 before it!

This disc was really hard to get out of my CD player. Windmill, the name for Matthew Thomas Dillon's solo act, offers an immensely rich and engrossing listen, one that tells strange stories and constructs bizarre, epic ballads for each track. The style he uses will seem very familiar to folks who ever gave frequent listens to the Flaming Lips or the Eels: lots of keys, booming percussion, sharp vocals, samples smattered generously throughout. There are elements that make you think of Arcade Fire's Funeral in the way this album came together - ultimately it stands as a unique piece with incredible replay potential, but its appeal is self-evident if you've ever enjoyed any of the aforementioned.

The tone on this album is wishful, dark, funny, sweet, obnoxious and endearing all at the same time. The songs are great a la carte, but the whole work is best enjoyed all together. You can get Puddle City Racing Lights on March 17th, direct from Melodic when it drops. In the meanwhile, you can always check out more music and band info over at you know where.

So thanks, Thomas! And thanks MFR readers for sticking with us for 1,500 bands, songs, and reviews, not to mention a rather intense server re-jiggering this weekend. In case you care about the latter, everything is fine and humming along happily now, so yay for geeks.
