A case of the Mondays no more

Burning Birthdays
The Harlem Shakes - Carpetbaggers

I took a really confusing nap yesterday. Fell asleep while watching Daily Show reruns, woke up about 45 minutes into Office Space, which I totally forgot was a fantastic comedy. Which of course got me thinking about how glad I was I'm on vacation this week (natch) and if its possible to get them dreaded Mondays when you're sitting around in your underoos.

See, fortunately, a while back I got one of those Sharper Image shower CD player thingies on eBay for around $18, so I've got my choice of tunes in the morning to set the tone for the day. For the last week, it's been Windmill, but this week I decided to give the recently released Harlem Shakes EP a whirl. In short, best decision I could have made to start my week.

The Shakes are no strangers to MFR, and they've been putting in long hours around town, with gigs all over the LES/Manhattan, a great spot at McCarren Pool this summer, and playing with other MFR favorites like the Subjects, and are currently touring with Deerhoof (click for tour dates). Their music just makes me feel good, having everything to do with it's doo-bob indie charm, and knowing what a nice bunch of lads are cranking it out.

Their new EP, Burning Birthdays, has five great songs, one to kickstart each day of your workin' week (though work is for suckers, suckers). You can order merch direct from the band for physical goods, or you can download Burning Birthdays for free at eMusic (w/trial signup).

So three cheers for the lads, two for vacation, and one for Office Space. Because it is a great movie, after all.

They do not sound like they would be from Harlem.
