Rescue me

Husky Rescue - Diamonds in the Sky

As is often the case here at MFR, I have been holding onto this band for a little while having received their new album, Ghost Is Not Real, a few months back. I've been letting things marinate, trying to decide whether or not to share it with you guys, but I think it is time today.

Despite the fact that I know their music has been remixed by a handful of talented people, such as Emperor Machine and Linus Loves, just how much I enjoyed Husky Rescue still came as a surprise to me. The band is a five piece indie-electro-pop-rock amalgam, hailing from the frosty climes of Helsinki, Finland. Their press release says the band was actually the studio creation of Marko Nyberg, who recruited friends, including Reeta-Leena Korhola on vocals, to play on their 2004 album Country Falls. They became a full live band after many requests to play more gigs, and have since toured Europe and the US, including the 2006 Lollapalooza festival.

Their sound is a really tough one to nail down actually, because some songs, like this one, are totally delicate, sleepy pop. In fact, I think this song is a perfect fit for today's weather here in New York: cold, gray, and likely to snow at any minute (probably not too different from the weather in Helsinki actually). Then other songs, such as the new single "Nightless Night", are totally dance-rock jams. The "Nightless" single features excellent remixes by Justus Kohncke, Black Grass, and Fink. Hit their Myspace page to hear the song and catch a handful of videos.

Ghost Is Not Real is out now in the UK on Catskills Records - visit the Husky Rescue website for links to their online store if you need a physical copy of the CD (or Vinyl), or you can download the album from iTunes (and hit eMusic for their first album).
