Booking Off The Pier

Victor Bermon - Farewell Lunch for Laura.

When I woke up this morning I was dreaming that it was daylight savings day, meaning that I could sleep in for another hour. After a night of fitful rest, this seemed like the best idea ever. Too bad that daylight savings day isn't until next month, and even then it's spring forward so I'd actually lose an hour. I'm a wholly impractical dreamer. Still, I had Victor Bermon's new CD on Hefty queued up, for just such an occasion. Like a musical sunrise, Farewell Lunch for Laura slowly opens up without ever getting too blinding.

It's simply beautiful - showcasing Bermon's inherent knack for melody and arrangement. The off kilter grandfather clock tick that shuffles along in the background gives the song a sense of place, and the gorgeous piano melody that never quite erupts punctuates the subtle tension of the still morning.

The rest of Bermon's album is just as beautiful. It's a wonderful listen, from start to finish, and highly recommended. You can order it (or maybe preorder it?) from our friends at Hefty Records.

Comments

I've been lucky enough to have had this album for quite a while now, and I have to say it's awesome, easily my favorite record for several months, and probably several months more. Probably the most beautifully optimistic music i've heard in a long time.
