Technão?

Gui Boratto - Beautiful Life

I've been sitting on this album for ages now, so I'm really glad to be able to share this song (and my excitement for the album) with you.

Last summer I posted "Arquipelago" by Brazilian techno producer Gui Boratto before, his firestorm of a club track that made it onto a handful of DJ mixes last year. Over the last couple of years, he has helped put a different face and sound on South American techno (primarily known for Villalobos and Luciano) with his attention to detail and knack for melody, and his singles for Köln's K2, a sub-label of Kompakt Records have each been successful in both a club and mix-CD setting.

Well, now 2007 brings us his long awaited first artist-album, Chromophobia, released this week by Kompakt. The album sees Boratto covering a number of styles - ambient, minimal, club bangers, electro pop - all of which he excels at, and all show his subtle hand (especially evident in tracks like "Mr. Decay" and "Shebang"). This song is probably the most 'pop' track he has yet given us, and is closest in style to last year's "Like You" - it is simply beautiful, and it went onto a playlist I called "2007 is Pretty" the very first time I heard it. The album as a whole will almost certainly stand out as one of the best Kompakt will release in 2007 (though I know there are some things coming that will also be excellent), and will probably be one of the best techno albums this year too.

Chromophobia is available from your favorite local dance music emporium, and is also available for high quality download via the Kompakt MP3 Shop or Beatport (who just started selling the Kompakt catalog!). Very highly recommended.

There is a release party for the album (on the 6th) in São Paolo, so you lucky kids down there best get to it!

after careful consideration, I take it back. "Beautiful life" is the perfect name for the track.

i love gui but i have to say many other tracks are stronger than this one. i think this is actually the worst track on the album, just waiting to be licensed to an advertisement :) not to be a hater, i just think gui is capable of much much more...

hi - thanks as ever to MFR & Kompakt for sharing this. however I'm not getting a lot out of this. maybe if they passed it on to Ulrich Schnauss to fix - it's nearly there, but all the bits seem strangely chosen, it's a very middy production (I don't think it's just the bit rate), the voice is okay but not Astrud Gilberto enough (why they didn't just get Barney from New Order to do it ...). the first minuite and a half are very promising, but it seems passionless, and not in a blissed-out way. sorry to disagree, but I listened to this at the same time as the Copy track, and that *does* have the simple/subtle thing going on. cheers a>
