The East Is So Many Things That it Could Be Home
There's no reason to be teased by this shit. It could've happened anywhere. You went to New York. You saw Cheeseburger (again), you danced, you drank complimentary sake. You sat in the studio. You smashed toilets and watched someone throw a pipe through a television set. You got fucking soaked in the rain. It sure felt like home, didn't it? Missing a few elements though, like a hand to hold, or the sun.
I'm not that crazy about long distance relationships, especially with something like a cardinal direction.
With Electrelane, who have made one of my favorite rock albums of the year so far, you never know if they're talking about the east coast of England or America. They're kind of super vague about the east part. I mean, the song was recorded in Michigan, but written in Germany. Germany is certainly east of both England and America. But none of this is important. What's important is the song. Listen listen listen: When she gets to the "it could be home" chorus I kind of super fall in love with it. I love the flat vocals. I love the guitar. I love the little Bruce Springsteen "hee hees" she throws in at the end. It's a perfect thing.
There's so much at stake here - so much that could go wrong. This is an all-girl band from Brighton, England making their fourth album, following up the excellent "Axes." Well, the new record, "No Shouts, No Calls," is nothing short of exceptional. I'm going to highly recommend it to you. And by you I mean everyone. It will be released this month by our friends at the Beggars Group here in the US.
