It's all my fault
I AM FINN - I Love You (Van She Tech Remix)
I have an admission to make. I like dance music, a lot. Sure you say, so do the other Robots (look at the excellent stuff Blair posts) - heck, don't we all? And you'd be right. But when I mean I like it, I mean I'm ready and willing to throw myself around to anything with a fun beat, because essentially I have no shame. Total cheeseball hip-house remixes? Love it. All those crazy house versions of oldies the Lab stocks? Got 'em. And I'm sorry - I know that when you're standing next to me on the subway and you hear the muted 4/4 beats coming out of my headphones you must roll your eyes with the same ferocity that I do when I hear that Reggaeton booooooo ba dum pum beat, and probably think to yourself "7:48 am is a little early for this crap, raver-dweeb." But I can't stop. It's been disproportionally filling my iPod, and I'm no longer ingesting a balanced musical diet - hell, I'm bingeing lately (I blame Serato). Dance music can be perfect, it can be awful, it can be everywhere in between, but it's almost always pure fun.
This track in particular. My little skullcap nearly popped off when I heard this for the first time a few months ago, and I still am only 50% up to speed on where it came from. I AM FINN is an electropop act from the UK which I can find nearly zero information on other than this MySpace profile. Van She Tech, on the other hand, are 2 of the Van She boys taking on Daft-Punk caliber alter egos and getting gritty and raw on the sequencers to produce some effing amazing techno remixes. Full disclosure: I have a musical crush on Van She proper the size of Texas - I can't wait for their full length, since their EP and the Kelly single are both three cuts above top-notch. Haven't heard 'em yet? Then get over to eMusic and grab the whole EP for free! The Cut Copy remix of Kelly is one of the best under the sun - Beatport has it for $2!
This song is a serious spot-blower-upper - put it on at your next gig, wait till around 2:29 in, and then run for your life. The first time I heard this track I remember thinking "man... I have to hear this on a real system - this song will make people go totally bonkers at the second break" and sure enough, when the Fixed boys (JDH & Dave P) played this at Studio B (it wasn't even that late, maybe around midnight), the place melted.
So stop being so uptight, and get down already. More songs from both the original artist and the remixers at their respective MySpace pages!
