More Bounce

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Guns N' Bombs Remix)

So you know we're down with Chromeo, as evidenced by our frequent posts about them - how can you not love these guys? They make dance-party boner jams that sound as welcome on the radio today as they would have in the roller rink in 1989, sandwiched between Debbie Deb and Nice & Wild. I love it.

This song is an EXCLUSIVE-to-MFR remix, and comes from their first single off their new album, also titled Fancy Footwork. The album comes out on Vice Records on June 19th. Fancy Footwork it is amazing - if you liked their first album, She's In Control, then you'll definitely love this one. They take the pop-goodness of that record and somehow crank it up even higher, with excellent melodies, smart and funny lyrics, and more bounce than you can shake a stick (or your ass) at.

You probably recall when we had a little series of videos of the Streets talking about his songs, right? Well, Vice did the same thing and sat Chromeo down, and had them talk through their record too - so here's a video of the boys talking about "Fancy Footwork" (Quicktime)

Anyway, I loves the Chromeo, and this remix by Guns N' Bombs - a pair of young dudes on the Parisian tastemaker-label Kitsuné (one of whom David and I had at the first People Don't Dance No More party) - is as fierce and bombastic as their own work. It is also pretty awesome.

Fancy Footwork will be a great Summer-album - a perfect soundtrack for chasing down that ice cream truck with your roller skates on, so stay tuned to MFR and Vice Records for more Chromeo info.

exclusive... blogs gotta stop using this word. one word ruins a pretty decent post.

this remix has been posted on every music blog under the sun.

Well, I was told by the label that we had it exclusively, but hey, I don't really care one way or another. Its still a cool remix, and the album is still excellent!

Keep in mind there's a difference between "posted" and "posted with the label's permission and blessing." That's where the exclusive usually figures in.

jp, I don't know about you but I wouldn't want any blog to be saying they have an exclusive, permission and blessing or otherwise, when the track has been available at online digital retail for weeks.

Agreed - it's a funny word, and doesn't mean much now that everything (sales, promotion, leaks, etc) are all online where anything can be duplicated, ported or re-hosted. But it is important to remember that we are an MP3 blog, not a music store (where as you correctly point out, the track has been available for purchase previously), and permission has everything to do with it when it's a freebie from the label and not a pay-per-download.

Perhaps we should coin a new term, something longwinded and totally clarifying: exclusive-in-that-we're-the-sole-folks-what-can-
offer-you-this-nifty-song-for-free-downloading-
with-permission-as-an-mp3-blog, or EITWTSFWCOYTNSFFDWPAAMB for short?

Or then again, "with Chromeo's blessing" saves some typing. That's what it's all about, after all.

it's a loaded word. and at this point there are to many cooks in the kitchen for it to mean anything.

Posted by: doesn't matter at May 8, 2007 8:14 AM

Is it really? Given the circumstances, I think you're being waaaaay too over sensitive about one little word (does it really ruin an entire post? I find that hard to believe, especially with a track like this one). It's a crowded series of pipes and tubes to be sure, but the correction was made, and we were acting on the good word of the label from the get go.
