Not Dead Yet...

Infant presents Simon Baker - Plastik
Here's something to finish off your weekend (or start your week) with some style.
Playhouse, the tech-house label based in Frankfurt, Germany, has been cranking out great music over a decade now. They have released music by Villalobos, Spektrum, Isolée, John Tejada, and Captain Comatose among many many others. Every year or so since 2001, Playhouse has put out compilations called Famous When Dead, to collect the best tracks from that year, and unreleased tunes too. I've been getting them since volume three, and they're consistently excellent.
Famous When Dead 5 is coming out in a few weeks, and this massive song by Simon Baker is a lead-in single for the compilation. Baker runs a label called Infant Records, a sub-label imprint of Leeds' 20:20 Vision. "Plastik" was released on a super-limited 12" earlier this year by Infant, and was immediately snatched up by Playhouse, because, as you'll hear, it is absolute genius. Think Alter Ego and Villalobos doing Radio Slave. Or a more subtle Audion. Or, just listen to the changes, the rumbling sub-bass (I can't wait to hear this on a good club system), and explosive, twitchy synths. Ridiculous monster techno.
Famous When Dead 5 also features recent, or unreleased, tracks from Rework, Roman Flügel, Einzelkind, UnknownmiX (yes, the late 80s proto-house artist), Isolée, and My My - the tracks are arranged so that they flow almost like a mix-CD, but with out actual mixed transitions, so that's good news for you DJs out there. You will be able to buy the album direct from the label here, buy it digitally via Beatport (who has all of their catalog online), or from your favorite dance-music retailer.
Very highly recommended.
