Pissed Jeans - I Still Got You (Ice Cream).
This is the sound of gut wrenching delusion. The sound of telling yourself you're about to turn a corner but then falling back into old habits just as quickly. The sound of an ear infection.
Listen - Pissed Jeans are part of a new scene of bands. They are loud and crass and punky. They're sort of like the No Wave bands of the late 70s early 80s NYC. They're sort of like Black Flag and Wire. They sort of embody the malaise and apathy of the late 2000s, barely mustering the strength to write a melody. It's certainly interesting, but it's also not for everybody.
Bands like Pissed Jeans and No Age and Clockcleaner are out there doing this every night. They're into art and skating and film. I mean, Pissed Jeans are on Sub Pop. The same label as Iron & Wine and the Shins. It's wild to see this rough and tumble band on there. These guys play songs that are vaguely like the Stooges but somehow more stripped down and low-fi.
So, the album, Hope for Men, is now available on Sub Pop. I'm not going to give it a highly recommended, only because it's pretty heavy and loud, and might not appeal to all of y'all. Still, give it a listen. I personally love it, for whatever that's worth.
