Beats me

I've been listening to this record by Leyode called fascinating tininess... on and off for a month or two now, and I'm finally getting around to posting something from it.
ft... comes from our friends at Eastern Developments, Scott "Prefuse 73" Herren's label for interesting beat-driven projects like this one. Leyode is Atlanta-based Yusuke Hama and Laurel Wells. Yusuke is a classically trained violinist and pianist, a photographer (he served as documentarian for one of Prefuse 73's tours) and music head. Laurel is a classically trained pianist, jazz musician, and a singer who has collaborated with numerous Atlanta- and Athens-based bands, including Mia Riddle and Her Band. The project started out as an experiment of Yusuke's, making snippets of music for French New Wave film-clips, and when he got together with Laurel, the result was this song, and eventually the album it comes from.
Essentially, the Leyode project is a great outlet for the pair of talented musicians and creative-types - the music could be called 'cinematic', certainly, but the album unfolds like an orchestrated Prefuse 73 record. The beat programming and rhythm structures are complex enough for introspection, head bobbin', etc. but the melodies are sweet, and the songs with Laurel's vocals are pretty exceptional. The album includes a track featuring Savath Y Savalas (yes, one of Herren's side projects) which is especially well suited for warm weather listening. Sunny and warm. How 'bout them apples?
fascinating tininess... is available to order now from the Eastern Developments store, from your favorite local indie music store, or can be downloaded from iTunes. Recommended y'all.
