Its (Disco) Magic

Sorcerer - Divers Do It Deeper
Because I've been on a slo-mo-disco kick lately, I've got yet another trick up my sleeve (and it is one Ben, one of our contest winners already noted). That trick is Sorcerer, whose new album, White Magic is out now on Tirk Records (the answer to the Modular contest question).
Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good banger track - as evidenced by last weekend's Simian Mobile Disco show with our buddies at Fixed - but at the same time, when its hot as tits outside I need something cool to listen to, and Sorcerer is definitely cool. Sorcerer is the production name of San Franciscan, Daniel Saxon Judd, who is a founding member of the pop group Call And Response.
As Sorcerer, he started releasing his brand of electro disco psychedelia earlier this year on Tirk, with the single for "Surfing At Midnight" which garnered tons of praise from the beardo-community, not only because it is a sweet slice of music, but because it had an excellent Prins Thomas remix on the B-side. The rest of the album is absolutely solid, and I will recommend it without hesitation. Slow-motion beats, echo-boxed-out guitars, spooky synths, all married to the Californian sunset. Super sweet. RIYL: Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, Metro Area, yacht rock (a little bit), Maurice Fulton, Quiet Village.
White Magic is available now from Tirk Records - check their online shop and see if they've added it yet, or see our friends at Forced Exposure, or download via iTunes. Also, be sure to hit up the Myspace pages for Sorcerer and for Tirk Records to hear more stuff from them.
NOW: This is your final reminder to get on the Disco Boat - you can still get the cheaper pre-sale tickets HERE (they're $15 now, or $25 on-board). We'll be dropping the plank and letting people on the cruize-liner around 11pm, and the boat leaves promptly at midnight, so don't be late. 18 and over. Finally, if you want to come and party with us, but you can't pay your way, I have ONE guest-list spot still available that I want to give to you, gentle readers. Email me - blair (at) music.for-robots.com - no later than 7pm today with "Disco Cruise" in the subject-line, and I'll pick an entry at random. PS: I've got a grip of free light-up lipgloss to give away to people on the boat! Whee!!!
