I've Been Your Kind

Taken By Trees - Julia.

Tomorrow I go home, to that relative word. While I live in Los Angeles and have kept my home here for the better part of four years, I am from New Hampshire. It's that tiny state up in the corner. The shorthand version is to say you're from Boston, but who really wants to admit that and dismiss all the beauty? Enough time has passed that all my friends have moved away, that my bedroom looks nothing like it used to, that the town itself has grown and changed. It's not necessarily unrecognizable or anything, but it's certainly different, and that feeling of home isn't what it used to be. I am fine with this - there will be swimming and boating and relaxing. My phone will be off and my laptop left in LA, with just my trusty Zune has on my only tether to technology.

I like to think that the name Taken by Trees refers not a literal kidnapping by trees but of a nice romantic epiphany upon viewing a forest. I guess I took the woods and lakes for granted all those years, now that I live in this weird urban habitrail of transplanted palm trees and people. It's hard to make a home with so much pavement. I'm looking forward to going home and seeing green things again. Should be nice.

What does this all have to do with Taken by Trees beautiful song? Not a damn thing. Just how i'm feeling today, really. I mean, I could go on about how Victoria Bergsman was in the Concretes and then sang on that Young Folks song by PB&J and now strikes out on her own with this project. But honestly, I'm not wikipedia and right now I couldn't care less. I just like her voice and the Scandanavian way she pronounces Julia. It's a subtle touch that makes it a little more personal. I also love the plodding piano and soft bass drum. So there.

I have no idea when this album will be out in the US, but I bet pitchfork does...and they did. It comes out september 11th on Rough Trade. How about that? The record is called Open Field and I highly recommend it.
