Every Post is a Love Letter to Someone
El Ten Eleven - Living on Credit Blues.
It was a lonely winter night in Los Angeles when I first found El Ten Eleven. That must have been back in 2005, which I guess isn't all that long ago. Dual-necked Bass/Guitarist Kristian reached out to me, and I think I posted the mp3 before he even found a stamp to mail me a copy of the CD. It's no secret that they're one of my favorite bands, and easily one of the most interesting bands in Los Angeles right now.
In between then and now, the two fellows in El Ten Eleven have been busy as the rhythm section of the Soft Lightes. They're signed to Modular records and just got back from a tour with Wolfmother. Things are going pretty well for them. Somehow, Kristian and Tim found the time to record a new El Ten Eleven record, this time opting to release it on their own (their eponymous record was re-released on Bar None). And hot damn if this album isn't amazing. It's exactly what I wanted from them -- It's still the same intricate layers of looped guitars, bass and drums that we know and love, a little harder, a little deeper, a little louder. I can't say enough good about it.
And if you get the chance to see their live show, don't miss it. Watching these guys in action is like watching master craftsmen erect some monumental piece of art -- all while rocking the fuck out. They used to sneak a cover of paranoid android into their set that's just amazing.
The album, Every Direction is North, is now available on iTunes and cdbaby. So highly recommended.

I'm having some friends over tonight for whiskey, beer and snacks before we walk down the street to see John Vanderslice play a free show at the LA River Basin. If you know where I live, you're welcome to stop by anytime after 6:30.
