Merrymaking

Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80s

Hey gang, just wanted to fill you in on a little something that's been cooking. Tomorrow night (Wednesday) I'm going to be opening the Calvin Harris show at Mercury Lounge, and playing between the bands - Zambri, and Gabby Glaser - and I couldn't be more pleased. Calvin Harris makes the kind of slick, bumping electro-house dance music that the blog kids are so enamored with, only his stuff is also tempered with a bit of the old dry British humor. Have a look at his video for "Merrymaking" here to see what I mean - it is pretty excellent stuff.

His album I Created Disco, made with an old Amiga computer, came out earlier this Summer in the UK, and finally came out last week here in the US, thanks to our friends at Almost Gold. You can order it from Amazon or download it via iTunes.

After the show is over, I'll be rolling with the crew over to the afterparty at Happy Endings, with David Bruno and the Moonwalk crew, Rezound + Workweek (whose party I'll be rocking next Wednesday, so stay tuned for that info).

See you tomorrow night!

The whole album is great, and has produced some of my favorite remixes of the summer. The Kissy Sellout mix of Merrymaking is insanely good, destroys the dancefloor every time I play it, and the strong piano intro lends itself to long, beautiful mixes.

i also really like this album.. merry making is a great song.. well its all good. didn't know it was all on a amiga.. anyways. his production of "micheal jackson" (by the mitchell brothers) is much better then the version on the albums promo IMO.
