Supermayer - The Art of Letting Go and Two Of Us
That's right. Two songs by Kompakt's super-producer team, Supermayer: Michael Mayer & Aksel Schaufler, aka Superpitcher. I'm putting up two songs because they present the two faces of the album: electro-acoustic pop tracks complete with vocals ("The Art of Letting Go) and massive, brain melting techno tracks ("Two of Us").
Their new album, Save The World, complete with super-hero comic book artwork, is really impressive as a full-length. The album actually works as a complete whole - no small feat for an electronic artist-album - flipping back and forth between the two poles of pop and techno with apparent ease. Really this should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed Kompakt for a few years and has heard both the artist-albums by Michael Mayer and Superpitcher on their own, as well as their various one-off tracks and remixes (they have done remixes as Supermayer since 1999). The album isn't simply schizophrenic, but hits both ends of the spectrum and much of the space in between. Mayer and Schaufler are the biggest names on Kompakt, and are respected in the wider world of techno as a whole, for a reason. Supermayer come across as musically and sonically diverse, and STW is thoroughly enjoyable as a result.
Supermayer's Save The World is released September 25th on Kompakt. You'll be able to buy it from your favorite dance music retailers (like Forced Exposure) or direct from the label (including their MP3 download store). Highly recommended.
