Let's not die, let's just shine, shine, shine

Look, I know right now you're listening to the new Radiohead album you bought for a nickel, but take those headphones off for a second. We and The A-Sides have a good song for you.
It's always nice to encounter a song that doesn't stick to the indie rock formula. Since the Pixies mastered the loud/quiet/loud aesthetic, it's common to hear songs with the subdued verses and full-blown choruses. Once in a while, though, you'll come across a song that messes with your expectations, exploding into gorgeous noise at the most surprising moments.
This dynamic is The A-Sides' calling card. Their record Silver Storms came out on Vagrant on Sept. 18, and it's a great collection of songs. These tracks fade in and out, suddenly erupt, and feature melodies that stay in your head for days. The A-Sides are from Philadelphia, and they're currently on tour. Why not check them out when they open for Ted Leo and the Pharmacists? They'll be in Columbus, Ohio tomorrow night, followed by some dates in Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and other cities.
You can buy Silver Stories from Vagrant for ten measley bucks. Do it!
