I Felt Sad for 30 Seconds

The Teenagers - Starlett Johansson.
More often than not I am behind on things. Especially lately. A perfect example is our friends the Teenagers here. More than a year ago, the guys in the band emailed and IM'd me, looking for me to post one or two of their songs. I think they wanted me to do "homecoming" and maybe one other. At the time, I liked the song well enough, but for some reason it just wasn't sitting with me and never got around to posting it - despite frequent encouragement from the band. I always felt bad for not posting, but what can I do? Then, when I heard Starlett Johansson on my friend's computer I was into it. Beggars couldn't clear an mp3 for this one until last Friday, so here we are.
The song follows the standard formula for The Teenagers -- sung/spoken verses with a lush, beautiful chorus. It breezes along with a tight beat, pretty synth line, and some nasty guitar soloing towards the end. What's not to like? Basically, they talk through all of Scarlett Johannson's career in ridiculous ways, hoping to endear themselves to her. It's good times.
So, the Teenagers are from Paris. They're not part of any Ed Banger crew or anything, or Roule or anything. They're just twenty-ish kids who play pop music. They've got their US debut coming out on Beggars on March 18th. It's called Reality Check and I highly recommend it.
Good times. And man - did anyone else check Ander's end-of-year list down there? That was some thorough, well-done stuff.
