But I Never See You

Ladyhawk - I Don't Always Know What You're Saying.

In the grand scheme of things, we're Ladyhawk's number two fan. The Fader got first crack at this one, but I'm not complaining. They've been repping the 'Hawk for years now, and truthfully that's maybe where I first heard about 'em. Who knows! But listen -- it's Wednesday. So far the week has been great (come on, admit it...), the new year simmers with opportunity, not loss. And here's a windfall in the form of a new Ladyhawk record. So when you're sitting in your easy chair with a beer and a shot next to the fireplace and waiting for the rain to stop you've got exactly what you needed to hear.

Despite being one of the laziest bands in recent history, Ladyhawk have somehow mustered the energy and arm strength to record a second record, perfectly titled "Shots!" It has the throaty rain choked howl of a black-eyed Vancouver night- the night you thought was going to be awesome but ended up with you throwing full beer cans at that girl's walkup. It's nine or so songs of modern Canadian tales, and there is nothing not awesome about it. Maybe they're like a Canadian hold steady, if there's a way of saying that without being insulting.

This is music for good times and bad, the party album for getting over the girl, an album to blast in the van on that stretch of the grapevine that blows you out of LA and into the breadbasket. It's got loads of applications. I'm not sure when this one comes out... probably March? I don't know. Not soon enough. But if you haven't explored their back catalogue, take a second to pick it up from our good friends at jagjaguwar. Highly recommended.

Comments

Sounds vaguely Echo and the Bunnymen'ish especially with that synth line in the chorus.

Hold Steady though? Personally I think this track trumps Hold Steady easily.
