We Need a Few Nights Off

The Notwist - Good Lies.

The clock is moving way to fast this morning, so I have to move quickly. But listen: there are a couple ways of looking at this song. The one that jumps out at you is a dysfunctional couple, doing their best to stay together, reminiscing on their past. The interpretation I prefer though, if the singer talking to himself. Especially when he hits the "lets just imitate the real until we find a better one." It's a variation on "fake it til you make it" but in such a depressing way- as if pretending that everything is ok is going to make it that way.

Lyrically there isn't a whole lot going on, but what's there hits super close to home. Musically, it's a perfect Notwist song, with the sweet middle ground between beats and guitars. The melody is classic and clean, and this song is already slotted alongside their best. I've always liked the Notwist and this just makes me psyched to hear the rest of the record. I'm not sure when it comes out (anyone...?), but it's called The Devil, You + Me and it'll be on Domino.

I read late May in Europe on City Slang Records, and "early June" here in the States on Domino. Yeeah! Lookin forward to it.

yeah - I'm pretty sure it's June 3rd for here in the States. I've heard the rest of the album and it's excellent. It's well worth the wait.
