Wednesday's outlook: clappy, reverby

French Kicks is one of those bands I really like whenever I hear them. I don't know much about them, I just really like them, and they make my day much better.
I know this song has been kicking around for a while, but what the hell - your day just got better, right? You found a scratch ticket on the street and won $5. Your boss just told you to go home early because you deserve a break. Your local Chili's called because they drew your business card.
This is the first track from the new French Kicks record Swimming. Though there are some killer songs here (try "Said So What"), the production is what really gets me. This song's mixture of faraway echoes and nearby claps is in almost every song on the record. It's percussive and blurry, and the result is like a Phil Spector girl group backed by Luna. (My quest to get a blurb on a record cover continues!)
Swimming was produced and mixed by the band, and you can buy it on iTunes right now. The real deal from Vagrant Records comes out on May 20th.
