I was going to save this one for Monday, but fuck it. This is a spring weekend song, plain and simple. It's coffee, sunshine, and the sound of everything thawing.
Jayber Crow - O My God When I Drop Dead.
I love that it starts on full-throttle and never slows down. And is it just me, or is Loudon Wainwright making something of a comeback? I hear his voice a lot these days, especially here, with Pete Nelson's and Zach Hawkins' voices combining to sound reedy and vulnerable, just like Wainwright.
Nelson and Hawkins are the only members of Jayber Crow, and this song comes from their first full-length record, Two Short Stories. The album's divided into two parts, and this song closes out the section called "Freeze And Thaw." (See? I told you!) They released a well-received EP called The Farmer And The Nomad last year.
The duo is on the road right now, and you can watch videos of the band's exploits here. (I humbly suggest "Chatfield.") You can buy Two Short Stories here.
