Push it good

Terry Nova - Push With Size (Kon's Live Edit)
Here's a little something sweet, tastefully flavored with disco funkiness for your weekend.
Our friends over in the UK at BBE Music just released the second volume of Kon & Amir's Off Track mix series, Vol 2: Queens. The duo have been DJ-ing together since the late 90s, and have been dusty-crate digging for beats and grooves for over twenty five years. They've put out around a dozen other mix CDs and compilations, and are acknowledged by many as beat-digging masters.
This newest double-CD compilation is fantastic. Kon presents a mix of rare-groove disco stuff that is deep enough to satisfy the record nerds out there, with many of the tracks being Kon's own re-edits, but at the same time it is also enough fun party-rocking and pop-sounding that even your mom will probably be into it. Amir's mix is a collection of African and Afro-Caribbean pop music, a realm of music that I don't have even the foggiest knowledge of, but that I find myself enjoying as though I'd been listening to these songs and artists all along. Really excellent stuff.
The double CD set came out earlier this week, so it is available now, direct from BBE (and can be downloaded as MP3s from their site here), or you can pick it up from iTunes, Amazon, or your favorite retailer.
Also, have a look at Kon & Amir's Myspace page, as they've got details on their upcoming DJ gigs, and peep Kon's own blog for more goodness, edits, mixes, etc. Blowin' up your spot Kon!
Have a hot (and humid and disgusting in NYC) weekend!
PS: You should probably be here for Alan Braxe + Lifelike tomorrow night! Woot!!
