Those Black Clouds Are All I See

The Dutchess and the Duke - Reservoir Park.

There was a predicted heat wave this weekend. It was supposed to be record breaking. They warned us to stay inside and be scared of the air. Turns out it's actually cooler than it was last week and nice 'n cloudy. That that, weathermen. They also told me that this Dutchess and the Duke band were going to sound exactly like the Rolling Stones. In this they were right.

But I think you can make an argument or two that this is totally fine.

One argument is this: If you were digging your dusty fingers in some thrift store record pile and came across this and it was from 1968 would you rave about it? Would you flip you little white lid about how it was some undiscovered (to you anyway) classic? The answer is this: probably. But instead it comes out in 2008, when there's a solid forty years of history and revisionism behind it. Does that make it bad? Honestly, I don't even know anymore.

What I do know is that I really like this album. Sometimes I just want to put this on and not care that it's two kids aping the Stones. And I don't think that's so bad. At the end of the day, music is music. So let's not argue over it and just enjoy it for its own merits. Driving around in my car last night this record totally hit the spot. What more can I ask?

So you should probably grab this little record from our friends at Hardly Art for ten bucks. Highly recommended.
