The Big 88Boadrum thing

So, usually this kind of thing only happens in NYC, and it's nice to see L.A. get something crazy like this. And that's why I'm writing about it. In case you weren't yet aware, on August 8th, 2008 [8.8.08], Nike Sportswear will present Boredoms' 88Boadrum at the La Brea tarpits. That's going to be 88 drummers in some kind of fractal pattern banging out noise from 5 to 10 p.m..

So that's the basics.

If you remember, the Boredoms did this last year in NYC with 77 drummers on 7/7/07. Who knows where 9/9/09 will be, with 99 drummers. I guess doors open at 5, and the music kicks of at 8:08 p.m. And I think they play music for 88 minutes. It all makes sense, right?

The same thing will be happening in NYC at the Williamsburg Waterfront at 8:08 eastern. It'll be the same 88-minute piece of music, but NYC folks at Gang Gang Dance conducting.

[update:] The event is free and open to the public, but you do need a ticket. They just released a new batch, and you can grab them here. It's limited to one ticket per person. I think I'll have a pair to give away when those run out, so check back if you get denied.
