Don’t Slip Away

I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me earlier that the guy singing in Rhye is Milosh. That makes perfect sense. To be honest, I had mostly forgotten about Milosh and his gentle electronic jams from the mid-2000s. Now that I think about it, his album Meme took many spins in my stereo back in 2006, and rightly so. While clearly a product of its time, the themes of love and loss and trying to figure your shit out resonate no matter what day it is.

And here we have Rhye, and instead of singing about ol’ girlfriends, he androgynously sings about sex. With a bit of hat tip to Sebastian Tellier’s “La Ritournelle,” the beat rides a delicate piano line, with pizzicato strings and some dry dusty drums. There’s even a jaunty little horn line in there which isn’t even out of place. Partner it with this sad faced European video about lives not lived and it can’t help but win.

Apparently something of a one-off, I’m not sure what else to expect from Rhye. I know that Milosh is working on new material, which is a good thing. To remind us of where we came from in the first place, let’s listen to something older:

Milosh – The City.
